Welcome to G{Code}, where we empower black, brown, and/or indigenous young women and non-binary people of color to thrive in the tech industry. Our programs provide a supportive, inclusive, and safe environment for individuals to explore coding, web development, and data analytics.
Bridgette is an out-of-the-box thinker who pushes hard for equity and inclusion for those that are undervalued and overlooked. Her goal is to create additional pipelines that enhance Boston’s innovation mix by focusing on women, housing, technology, and entrepreneurship. As an urban planner and founder of Dudley Visions SkyLab and G{Code}, she has worked with institutions, coalitions, community residents, and city officials to develop economic networks and programs.
Bridgette is particularly interested in rebuilding the ways Roxbury and other neighborhood economies emerge by delivering specialized, efficient, and innovative plans that fuel long-term economic growth for Black, Brown and immigrant residents. She received her Master’s in Urban Planning with a concentration in Economic Development from Tufts University.
Faraja Thompson is an innovator, lifelong learner, and educator, always open to novel ideas and technical challenges. Faraja is passionate about creating systems and programs that make life easier, happier, equitable, and accessible for everyone. Faraja served as an elementary school teacher and a seasonal U.S. park ranger before retiring and obtaining several certifications in web development and Python. Her non-traditional path led her to become a volunteer teaching assistant, contracted instructor, and fellow with the Girl Develop It technology education organization. Faraja also completed a 12-week batch at Recurse Center, an educational retreat for software developers. Faraja holds a B.S. in Marketing and Africana Studies from Douglass College at Rutgers University, and an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Learning, with a concentration in English as a Second Language, from William Paterson University.
Magdalena Abrego is a Latine arts and technology professional whose curiosity initially led her to G{Code} as a student. After earning a B.M. from Berklee College of Music and a M.M. from the New England Conservatory, she completed the 2020 Intro to G{Code} program where she learned HTML, CSS, and Javascript. As a casual coder and restless creative, Magdalena returns to G{Code} with a passion for bolstering equity and accessibility in tech.
Tanesha currently serves as G{Code}’s Social Media Manager. She has previously worked as an administrative assistant for nonprofit organizations. She has always had an interest in tech and is a recent G{Code} alumna, having completed the program in summer of 2023. She earned her BA in Anthropology with a minor in International Studies in 2018 at Texas State University, and has also studied Computer Science at La Sapienza University of Rome in Italy.
Aden Gideon is a full-stack software engineer: passionate about tech equity and injera. She graduated from Temple University with a B.A. in African American Studies and Journalism (Go, Owls!). With a background in Higher Education Administration, she caught a glimpse into the world of tech, graduating from G{Code}’s Intro to Web Dev Program in 2020. She recently completed a Software Engineering bootcamp at Hack Reactor then returned to G{Code} as a Community Advocate, with aspirations of helping create spaces and opportunities for others like G{Code} did for her. In her downtime, she enjoys baking treats and taking photographs of her favorite people.
