Become a Volunteer
We take pride in our volunteers and their knowledge and skillset that adds value to our fellows education. All prospective volunteers must apply to become a volunteer for G{Code}.
What role do volunteers play?
Volunteers play a large role in the education of our fellows. Below are the following volunteer roles that are available at G{Code}:
Technical Assistants – The slides, demos, coursework, and homework have already been designed and tested by the leaders at G{Code}. We currently have part-time instructors mainly running the class sessions. Class happens every Saturday from 10am – 2pm.
Because we are remote, it’s hard to help fellows when they get stuck. If fellows are following along during a demo, but one student gets stuck because of a missing angle bracket, you will pull them into a breakout room and help them debug. This way we can keep our class running smoothly!
There are times, fellows separate into groups to work on projects. You will sit in one of the breakout rooms and act as a guide to unblock fellows and help boost their confidence.
You can commit to attending parts of the sessions and collaborate with our instructors depending on your bandwidth
1:1 Mentors – Mentors help check in on progress through the program and provide career advice. As a 1:1 mentor, you can set your own schedule with the mentee. Sign up to help our change makers realize their full potential and establish long-term, growth-oriented careers in the innovation economy.
Speakers – Speakers come in and chat about their experience navigating the tech industry, what their role looks like, how they manage their finances as a developer, building their personal brand, and more. We will host this via Twitter Spaces on the @gcodehouse Twitter account or by Zoom. If you have an idea of what you want to speak about, we’re open to learning more!
If you don’t know how to use Twitter Space, we are experts and we will set you up for success.
Office Hours – Office Hours consist of fellows visiting to get assistance on completing their assignments. Our expectation is to have office hours everyday throughout the week but it is based on the mentors availability and the needs of the fellows.
